Personal Injury Attorney in Denver

25+ Years of Personal Injury Experience, Handled Directly by Me

If you were recently injured and are trying to figure out your next step, I can help. I represent injury victims in Denver, Adams, Jefferson, Douglas, and Arapahoe Counties, guiding each client through the personal injury claim process from the first call through resolution. My practice is built around one principle: every client deserves direct access to their attorney, not a paralegal or junior associate.

What Sets My Firm Apart for Denver Injury Cases

With over 25 years of experience and thousands of cases handled throughout Colorado, I’ve built an approach that goes beyond standard legal representation. I personally manage every case. When outside support is needed, I coordinate directly with a network of trusted professionals, including private investigators, physicians, forensic toxicologists, and accident reconstruction specialists. That coordination happens at the attorney level, not through a support staffer working from a checklist.

I also believe quality legal representation shouldn’t be financially out of reach. My firm pairs aggressive advocacy with a focus on affordability, so cost isn’t a barrier to getting the help you need.

Personal Injury Cases I Handle for Denver Clients

Negligence takes many forms, and each case type comes with its own evidentiary demands and legal considerations. Here’s what my firm handles.

Car Accidents
Motor vehicle accidents are the most common source of serious injury claims. I draw on decades of experience with these cases to pursue compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering.

Truck Accidents
Commercial trucking accidents often involve multiple liable parties, including drivers, carriers, and freight companies. I handle these claims for injured individuals throughout the Denver area.

Motorcycle Accidents
Motorcyclists face disproportionate injury risk when a negligent driver causes a crash. I help riders pursue damages covering property damage, medical treatment, lost income, and pain and suffering.

Rideshare Accidents
Uber and Lyft accidents introduce a layer of complexity that typical auto claims don’t: shared liability between the driver and the rideshare platform. I handle these claims and work through the coverage questions that come with them.

Premises Liability
Colorado’s Premises Liability Act, codified at Colorado Revised Statutes section 13-21-115, governs injuries that occur on someone else’s property. The law classifies injured visitors as trespassers, licensees, or invitees, and the duty of care owed depends on that classification. I’ve dedicated a significant portion of my practice to these claims.

Wrongful Death
When negligence costs someone their life, surviving family members or estate representatives may pursue recovery for the deceased’s medical and funeral expenses, lost future income, lost benefits, and loss of love and care.

Colorado Filing Deadlines You Need to Know

Missing a deadline can end a valid claim before it starts. Here are the key rules that apply to most Denver personal injury cases.

Statute of Limitations for Most Personal Injury Claims: Colorado’s general filing deadline is two years from the date of injury. Motor vehicle accident claims carry a three-year deadline.

Claims Against a Government Entity: Under the Colorado Governmental Immunity Act, written notice must be filed within 182 days of discovering the injury. Missing that requirement can bar the claim entirely.

Modified Comparative Negligence: Colorado follows a modified comparative negligence standard, meaning an injured person who shares some responsibility for the accident can still recover damages, but the award is reduced by their percentage of fault. If that percentage reaches 50 percent, recovery is barred.

The sooner you consult with an attorney, the better positioned you are to protect these rights and meet filing deadlines.

Where Denver Personal Injury Cases Are Filed

Denver District Court, part of the Second Judicial District, hears civil disputes exceeding $25,000. Smaller money claims go to Denver County Court. Both courts are housed in the Denver City and County Building. Which court handles your claim affects procedure, timelines, and strategy, and it’s something I address with clients from the start.

What Happens After You Call

Once you reach out, I begin investigating the facts, gathering evidence, and building a strong record for your claim. I also take over all communications with the insurance company. Insurers have their own interests, and their adjusters are trained to limit payouts. Having a personal injury lawyer manage those interactions from the beginning helps protect your claim throughout the negotiation process. If a fair settlement isn’t reached, I can represent you in court.

You don’t need to figure this out on your own. I offer free initial consultations to discuss what happened, review your options, and outline a potential path forward. There’s no cost and no obligation to continue.

Joe Lazzara and his staff were professional, sincere, and actually cared about me and my case. I felt like I mattered. He fought for me in court and reassured me the entire way. He got me more than I could have ever imagined. I would recommend Joe Lazzara to anyone. He is trustworthy, professional, honest, and a straight shooter. More importantly, the courtroom was where he excelled!

Joe was amazing in helping me work through my case. Always felt like he had my back and was looking out for what’s best for me. Very professional and him and Amy were very easy to reach with any questions, would highly recommend to anyone. Got me a great deal and will always be grateful. So glad I chose him as my counsel, Thank you Joe!

"Joe is a very personable, understanding, genuine, and honest guy."
Joe has helped me through possibly the worst time in my life. I made a grave mistake while driving drunk and putting my passengers in danger. I was facing jail time and more. He represented me for over a year, and in that time I got to know him. He is a very personable, understanding, genuine, and honest guy. He isn’t just a lawyer, he is also a human being that knows people make mistakes. I cannot put into words how this man has changed my life. He has not only helped me with my offense, he helped me get through this hardship mentally and emotionally. I would never take this man for granted. Every single penny spent on this man is worth it.

"Both he and his office staff were great at communication and fighting for the best outcome and have continued to assist with any additional questions."
Obviously from the second you get a DUI/DWAI, you feel small and scared (at least this is how I felt) and unsure about what laid ahead. I went online to look for reviews of an attorney my friend had referred me to. Luckily, I saw a review of Joseph A Lazzara; he had raving reviews so I made a phone call that day to schedule a consultation. From the beginning thru the end…Joe explained everything that was ahead of me (the unknown was the scariest part of the entire process for me). Both he and his office staff were great at communication and fighting for the best outcome and have continued to assist with any additional questions, including representing me w/ my DMV hearing. He fought for me to keep my license and even helped me get a reduction of my therapy track after I completed everything the court had asked of me. He helped me save time away from my family and money I would have spent on additional therapy sessions, even the judge said he rarely reduced his original decision. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND Joseph Lazzara for anyone facing any charges within the court system, he will fight for you until the end!

    "Thank you, Joe."
I was a passenger when a car ran the stop sign and slammed into the passenger side door. I was seriously hurt and in the hospital for several weeks. I was in pain and scared. The other driver did not have insurance. I did not know what to do. I called Joe Lazzara and he immediately began working on my case. He worked hard and got me $100,000. Thank you Joe.
